Billing FAQs
This page covers common and critical questions related to CloudRaya Billing & Payments, including how usage is charged, how Cloud Credit and Coins work, how invoices are generated, and how to track, control, and audit costs across projects and services.
It is designed for engineers, finance teams, and account owners who need to understand where costs come from, how payments are recorded, and how to avoid billing surprises when running workloads on CloudRaya.
Billing Model & Concepts
Q: Is CloudRaya a subscription service or pay-as-you-use?
A:
CloudRaya uses a prepaid, pay-as-you-use model. You top up your balance in advance, and usage charges are deducted hourly based on the resources you run. There are no long-term contracts or monthly subscriptions.
Q: Why do I need balance before I can create resources?
A:
Because CloudRaya is prepaid, you must have available Cloud Credit or eligible Coins before creating billable resources. This prevents resources from running without a valid payment balance.
Q: What is the difference between Cloud Credit and Coins?
A:
Cloud Credit is your primary balance and can be used for all services.
Coins are promotional credits from vouchers or campaigns and can only be used for eligible services. Coins are always used first when applicable.
Usage & Charge Calculation
Q: Why is my balance being deducted even though I didn’t “do anything”?
A:
Most CloudRaya services are billed per hour while they exist or remain allocated, not only when you actively use them. Examples include:
- VM storage and snapshots
- Object Storage buckets
- Container Registry storage allocation
- Additional Public IP addresses
If these resources still exist, they will continue to generate charges.
Q: Why didn’t my bill go down after I deleted a VM?
A:
Deleting a VM stops compute charges, but related resources may still exist, such as:
- Attached storage volumes
- Snapshots
- Additional Public IPs
These continue to generate hourly charges until they are deleted or released.
Q: Why am I still being charged after deleting most of my container images?
A:
Container Registry billing is based on the allocated storage size, not the actual amount of data stored. Deleting images does not reduce your bill. You must resize the registry storage allocation to a lower tier.
Invoices & Usage Records
Q: Why doesn’t my invoice show my resource usage?
A:
Invoices in CloudRaya represent payments (top-ups), not usage. They show how much money you added, not how it was spent.
To see usage, use:
- Cloud Credit History (transaction-level detail)
- Monthly Usage History (monthly summary)
Q: Why do I see usage charges but no invoice?
A:
Because usage charges do not generate invoices. Only top-ups and payment transactions generate invoices.
Coins, Vouchers & Promotions
Q: Why were my Coins used instead of my Cloud Credit?
A:
Coins are always consumed first for eligible services. This happens automatically and cannot be changed.
Q: Why can’t I use Coins for some services?
A:
Coins cannot be used for:
- SSL certificates
- cPanel licenses
- Managed Services
- Marketplace applications
These services always use Cloud Credit, even if Coins are available.
Q: Can I transfer or withdraw Coins?
A:
No. Coins are non-transferable and non-withdrawable. They can only be used to offset eligible usage.
Tracking, Auditing & Finance Workflows
Q: Where can I see exactly which resource is costing me money?
A:
Use Cloud Credit History. You can filter by service type, resource name, and date range to see hourly charges per resource.
Q: How do I get a monthly cost report for accounting or management?
A:
Use Monthly Usage History and the Export All Project feature to generate a consolidated monthly usage report.
Q: Can I separate billing for production and staging?
A:
Yes. Billing is organized by project. By using separate projects for production and non-production, you can track and report costs independently.
Payments, Top-Ups & Problems
Q: What happens if my top-up payment is not completed?
A:
A pending invoice will appear in Cloud Credit History. You can resume payment using the same invoice or cancel it if it is no longer needed.
Q: What should I do if I paid but my balance didn’t update?
A:
Wait a few moments, refresh the Control Panel, and check Cloud Credit History. If it still doesn’t appear, contact support with your payment reference number.
Cost Control & Best Practices
Q: What is the most common cause of unexpected charges?
A:
Forgetting about unused resources such as:
- Old snapshots
- Unused buckets
- Retained Public IPs
- Oversized Container Registry storage
- Test VMs left running
Q: What is a safe cost-control pattern for teams?
A:
- Separate projects for dev, staging, and production
- Review Monthly Usage History every month
- Audit Cloud Credit History after major changes
- Clean up unused storage and IPs regularly
- Resize registries and VMs instead of leaving them oversized
